25 March 2019 - Colleagues and students are warmly invited to a literary encounter with multi-award winning Québec writers Lise Gauvin and Madeleine Monette.

This is a cross-school event organised by Modern Languages (French and Francophone Studies), the Centre for New Writing and the Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies and generously supported by the Québec Government Office in London.

The writers

Lise Gauvin is a writer, essayist and literary critic from Québec. She is the author of twenty books and hundreds of articles on language, and on French, Québec and Francophone literature in particular. The recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious Prix du Québec in 2018, Lise is an Emeritus Professor at the University of Montréal, a member of the Royal Society of Canada and of Québec’s Academy of Letters.

Madeleine Monette has written five novels, numerous short stories, and collections of poems. Her last novel, Skatepark, came out in Paris in 2015. She received the Robert-Cliche Award for her first novel and was short-listed for such literary awards as the Prix de l'Académie des Lettres du Québec and the Marguerite Yourcenar Award in the US. She is a member of the international Parliament of Francophone Women Writers and of Québec’s Academy of Letters.
