Midwifery with Leadership

This unique undergraduate course, Midwifery with Leadership MSci has been developed as a partnership between University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and the University of Leicester.

University of Leicester academic staff worked alongside clinicians, managers and chief nurses within the NHS to develop this innovative new course.

Accelerated career

At the end of your studies you will receive your Midwifery with Leadership degree and will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a midwife.

Once you have successfully completed the course and displayed the NHS values and behaviours, there will be employment opportunities as a midwife in the local NHS.

When you complete our leadership programme, you will leave with a clear plan to accelerate your career in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. Your NHS employer will support you in achieving these milestones for you to progress into a clinical leadership role if this is something you aspire to.


After completing this programme you will be able to commence employment within the NHS at Band 5 and it is anticipated that, with support from your preceptors in practice, you will utilise your leadership education and skills to fast-track into key NHS leadership roles. At the point of registration you will have the ability to practise autonomously and to progress your midwifery career.

You will benefit from a range of secondments in a variety of settings, allowing you develop a career as a leader in either clinical practice, academia or research.
