Induction Toolkit for Schools and Departments within the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (CSSAH).

This Induction Toolkit for the Schools and Departments of the College has been built on existing practice from across the College and the University. This takes into account good practice from a range of HE institutions and suggests improvements following feedback received from a range of new starters within the College.

What can I find in the Induction Toolkit?
Here you will find all the information you need to prepare for staff induction for either Professional Services or for Academic staff. This won’t replace induction arrangements already operating within Schools and Departments, but aims to enhance the experience for all New Staff by providing consistency across the College and by sharing good practice.

  • Professional Services' staff with line management responsibilities
  • School Administrators
  • Mentors for New Staff
During the development of this toolkit, we undertook numerous surveys with new staff and from this feedback the following three key roles were identified as important for helping new staff to settle in to their role:
  • the relationship between the new starter and their Line Manager
  • the facilitation of induction by the School Administrator
  • support from their Mentor (if applicable).

If you undertake any of these roles, you will find useful guidance and materials to use within this toolkit.
