Postgraduate Research Fund 2018/19

Postgraduate Research Fund Bursaries are available for the 2018/19 academic year for postgraduate research students within the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.

Call for applications

The College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities has set aside funding in 2018/19 for bursaries for postgraduate research students who do not have access to other funds (i.e. this fund is primarily for self funded students). Applications can be made for bursaries towards, for example:

  • giving papers at conferences;
  • field trips and visits to archives;
  • organising small events, etc.

Please note that for conference funding you should not normally apply to the fund unless you have been accepted to give a paper at the conference (or subject to confirmation).   In addition food costs cannot be covered.

Students can only be awarded a maximum of £500 each year, although this may be spread across more than one application.

We also strongly encourage collaborative bids spanning departments in the College, for which the maximum would normally not exceed £750. Bids here might include organising workshops or small conferences. Cross-departmental awards will not count towards the £500 annual limit applicable to the students involved in the bid.

Process

To apply:

  1. Applications must be made using the form which can be accessed at the end of this page
  2. All bids must be supported by a supervisor's statement (applications submitted without this will be excluded). Please obtain a supervisor statement prior to completing this form.
  3. Costings must be supported by invoices or screenshots etc.

Deadline

Applications will be assessed on a competitive basis by the College Postgraduate Research Director at the end of each month. Please submit by the 25th of the month to be considered for that monthly round.  Do aim to apply at least one month ahead of when costs are planned to be incurred.  Retrospective applications will not be considered.

Outcome

Successful applicants will be required to produce a short report at the end of the funding period indicating how the money has been spent and what outputs have been achieved.The submitted report must include copies of receipts for all expenditure.  All reports should be submitted by September 2019.

Payment of an award is via BACS transfer.  Successful applicants will be asked to complete a Bank Transfer Form.
