Preliminary training

All our training provides a vital element in supporting your thesis project over the duration of your registration at Leicester.
Module schedule 2019/20

All modules run on a Monday or Tuesday for a succession of nine or ten weeks and begin each October or January.

  • Click on a module below to see more information.

Our modules are a great introduction to the research process. For some researchers the content may be familiar and for others there will be little to no familiarity but everyone can get something out of the sessions.

  • The training is non-credit bearing
  • There are two modules, each made up of 9 or 10 x two/three-hour sessions
  • A short, formative, assignment will be set at the end of each module.

Although designed for students within the Social Sciences discipline, students from other schools/departments across the university are also welcome to participate.

Further training for PhD students is also provide by The Doctoral College.

Students will be expected to meet with their supervisors before the start of the programme and discuss benefits of the DRT training to decide which of the 2 modules to participate in. Some schools do require students to undertake both modules, but contact your school PGR Tutor regarding any departmental specific training requirements.
