CSSAH Postgraduate Fund 2019/20

As you are aware the Covid-19 virus outbreak and restrictions on travel and gatherings means that much activity is being cancelled. Unfortunately for the foreseeable future therefore the college will be unable to provide support for events which will undoubtedly not be able to take place. We are currently awaiting clearance from the University re: mobility, etc. and are hoping to reopen in May for June onward events

Call for applications

The College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities has set aside funding in 2019/20 for bursaries for postgraduate research students who do not have access to other funds.

The maximum bursaries awarded are £500 but students are eligible for apply more than once in the year - but to an overall maximum of £500 for individual awards.  Awards may be for presenting a paper at a conference; archive visits; training to support research; attending/running a workshop etc.  Preference for awards from the College funds will go to self-or partially-funded PhD students.

We also strongly encourage collaborative bids spanning departments/schools in the College, for which the maximum would not exceed £750,  Bids here might include organising workshops or small conferences.

Applications must spell out related costs and have supporting documentation, such as proof of train costs. Note that the PGR Fund does not cover subsistence/food costs, funding towards proof reading etc.

Students must apply by the 26th of each month; applications are then considered by a panel at the start of the next month. Note that awards are not retrospective and must be submitted in good time (ideally 2 months ahead) for events proposed. It is essential that applicants have a supporting reference from their supervisor/s for any applications.

Outcome

Successful applicants will be required to produce a short report at the end of the funding period indicating how the money has been spent and what outputs have been achieved.  The submitted report must include copies of receipts for all expenditure.  Payment of an award is via sterling cheque collectable from the Fees Payments Office unless alternative arrangements are specified in the application.
