On October 22nd 2015 DICE was officially launched with its inaugural Annual Lecture before an audience in excess of 350 people.

Living in a Diverse Britain: Aspiration, Fears and Different Realities was delivered by the former Chair of the Commission for Racial Equality and member of the House of Lords, Lord Herman Ouseley.

Lord Ouseley described his own experiences of racism in Britain and warned of assuming the hard work had been done to overcome racial exclusion. He decried the policy-driven ‘obsession with numbers’ over matters of ‘race’ and argued that it only succeeds in heightening prejudice and intolerance. He also outlined his hopes for future community integration and for the work of DICE at the University of Leicester. People in Leicester responded with a commitment to re-double their efforts to build on positive developments and to challenge prejudice where and when it occurs.

This short film provides a flavour of an extraordinary event which brought in a huge audience from outside the boundaries of the University of Leicester and which provide an inspiring launch for DICE.
