Advanced Microscopy Facility

AMC

The University of Leicester's Advanced Microscopy Facility (AMF) is a College of Science and Engineering facility that was funded through HEFCE's Stragetic Research and Infrastructure Fund (SRIF 2).

The AMF supports major experimental research activities in the Departments of Chemistry, Engineering, and Physics, and aims to promote the advancement of multidisciplinary research activities across the Physical and Biological Sciences.

One of the key aims of the facility is for training students and postdoctoral workers in microscopical techniques and for supporting high quality research.  This is supported by in house training and a broad-based research colloquium series.

The Advanced Microscopy Facility comprises four instruments, a UHV STM, an SPM, a FEGSEM with EBSD and EDX and a TEM with EDX and the associated specimen preparation equipment for preparing thin foils or carbon replicas.

Microscopes and Consultancy

All the instruments are available to all users (University staff, postgraduates and undergraduates) within the University and particularly within the College of Science and Engineering. We also welcome industrial users (see consultancy).

The Facility's instruments are spread across the College. More details of the instruments can be found on the microscopes page.
