Information for Academic Champions

You will have an induction session to introduce you to the role and to meet the senior members of the College.

Online support

As part of your honorary title with the College you will receive a University IT account.  This will enable you to register with Yammer and gain access to the College's private online Academic Champion forum.

An annual dinner honouring Academic Champions will be organised.  You will automatically be invited to this event.

The first annual dinner was on Monday 18th October 2016 at College Court.  This was an induction dinner for the Academic Champions.

For more information on College Events please contact our College Events Co-ordinator, Dr Danni Benyon-Payne (

As you will be aware, FY1 doctors are required to attend a Corporate Junior Doctor Induction when they commence their position at the University Hospitals of Leicester. The University will in future have a presence at that induction to ensure the academic profile is appropriately represented to all new staff.

I know that in addition to the corporate induction, each speciality also offers its own specialty induction. I would encourage you to consider discussing with your speciality whether you could attend this in your capacity as Academic Champion (if you don’t already). This would allow you to make contact with your new junior doctors and explain more about the Academic opportunities within your speciality.
