Biography

After qualifying from Cambridge University Mr Khan completed his basic surgical training on the Oxford rotation. He subsequently obtained his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Royal Free Hospital, University of London, before commencing his higher urology training in London. He had the opportunity to expand his clinical and research knowledge by working for two years as a Senior Fellow at the Brady Urological Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, USA. In his first year he undertook prostate cancer research and obtained his Master of Surgery (MS) degree also from the University of London.

After completing his training in London, Mr Khan was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at University Hospitals of Leicester in April 2006. He has been the Head of Service for Urology from August 2009 till April 2015.

Mr Khan is very interested in research, particularly prostate cancer diagnosis. This has led to collaborative work with Nottingham Trent University. Accordingly, he was appointed a Visiting Professor to Nottingham Trent University in March 2012. Recently, he has been appointed as a Reader at the University of Leicester.

Mr Khan has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and have over 2000 citations in the world literature. In recognition of this, He was appointed as an Associate Editor of the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons.

Mr Khan's clinical interests include the management of male lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) particularly in men, stone disease and prostate cancer.

Despite being a busy clinician he is very passionate about research and happy to be a source of advice and collaborate with future academics.
