Biography

Prior to qualifying as a doctor in 1995 Dr Langford previously qualified and worked as a pharmacist. He became a consultant in 2004 obtaining a CST in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics. As a Clinical Pharmacologist he has a varied portfolio. Dr Langford has strong clinical links working in the field of Acute Medicine, having a specialist interest in Clinical Toxicology. This has also allowed close collaboration with the Forensic Toxicology service and the Criminal and Civil Justice Systems. He is a member of the Society of Acute Medicine and the British Pharmacological Society.

Dr Langford is also a member of the NICE Health Technology Appraisal Committee C reviewing products that may be used in the NHS. His work with NICE has also included the writing of two National Clinical Guidelines as well as associated Quality Standards. Other regulatory work he has been involved in includes acting as a Specialist Advisor to the Care Quality Commission and also being a medical panel member working at the Medical Practitioner Tribunal Service on Fitness to Practice Panels. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer to the University of Leicester having delivered various elements of medical education as well as being an exam board member for the Acute Medicine Specialty Certificate Examination (SCE) exam.
