Health Matters

Health Matters is the University of Leicester's community engagement project funded by the Edith Murphy Foundation. Based in the College of Life Sciences, Health Matters tackles important, relevant health issues within Leicester's diverse community.

Facilitate, network and collaborate to help improve the health and wellbeing of our local community.

The Health Matters team focuses on creating a two-way process of engaging with Leicester's community to build a network that collaboratively works on improving health and wellbeing locally.

Being good neighbours

1. Open up our facilities in a meaningful way

Rooms in the George Davies Centre are available for meetings and events to local community groups. Thanks to the generosity of the Edith Murphy Foundation, we are able to offer a discount to community groups with a health remit.

Please note that rooms are not available on dates when the University is closed.

The George Davies Centre atrium can now also be used as an exhibition space. Please get in touch, if you would like to book the space to exhibit your artwork.

An article on past an current exhibitions can be found here (Coming soon).

2. Being part of the local network of organisations and community groups with a health remit

If you are hosting any networking events or conferences on health-related topics, please do let us know, as we would love to attend them and be part of the wider network.

Vice versa, if you are looking for a venue to host your networking event, please get in touch to see if we are able to accommodate you in the George Davies Centre.

3. Appreciating local needs by supporting on-going projects

We provide resources and potential funding for local projects that focus on health and wellbeing; specifically projects that focus on exploring the arts as a means to highlight cultural and individual differences in health perceptions.

More information on funded projects can be found here (Coming soon).

Running health campaigns

Our health campaigns aim to improve our community's overall wellbeing by creating safe spaces for people to come together and either discuss certain health topics, or just socialise and enjoy a free, entertaining event or activity.

We are currently focusing on Mental Health and Wellbeing, Respiratory Health and Wellbeing, and Healthy Ageing with the aim to tackle social isolation and loneliness.

A list of all of our current events and activities can be found here.
