College PhD Scheme

The University of Leicester is one of the UK's top research universities.  From the invention of genetic fingerprinting through to identifying the recently-discovered remains of King Richard III - our work is world-leading and impactful.  The College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology at the University of Leicester offers a dynamic, modern environment for postgraduate research, built on decades of highly respected achievement.

Across our disciplines we’re conducting research at the cutting edge. We believe that universities have a unique and critical role in advancing knowledge and helping to overcome major challenges faced by society.  To deliver this, we have created two new Research Institutes:

  • Leicester Institute of Structural and Chemical Biology (LISCB) - exploiting synergies in research technologies and approaches to deliver major advances in both fundamental and translational research in the fields of structural biology, chemical biology and single-molecule research.
  • Leicester Precision Medicine Institute (LPMI) - develops, evaluates and implements prevention and treatment based on unique characteristics of individuals and subgroups of the population to provide more effective and safer healthcare and improved health to benefit populations internationally.  A joint venture with University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

We continue to make substantial investments into a critical mass of future biomedical research talent by offering PhD studentships that will tackle some of the world’s most pressing and biomedical issues at the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology.

To enhance our existing research profile, we’re offering a number of full-time research studentships across our world-class Departments in:

  • Cancer Studies (See Molecular and Cell Biology),
  • Cardiovascular Sciences (1 studentship), Bench work
  • Diabetes Research Centre ( 1 studentship),
