Ash is a public health researcher in the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East Midlands. After over a decade working in the field of physical activity and public health, Ash joined the University of Leicester in 2019 where he is now working on projects related to ethnic minority health, research equality, primary care, and multimorbidity.

He currently co-leads an
ARC-EM project on the representation of seldom-heard groups in applied health research.

Professional Activities

Ash has acted as a peer-reviewer for over 30 public health and physical activity journals such as BMC Public Health, BMJ Open, and Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. In addition he has reviewed grant applications on behalf of the MRC, NIHR and Glasgow Children’s Hospital.

Ash has co-supervised one PhD student to completion (Anna Chalkley, Loughborough University, 2016-2020) and examined postgraduate theses at MRes level.

He has also provided consultancy for South Asian Health Foundation, Public Health England, UNESCO, Youth Sport Trust, BBC and the English Premier League.
