ACF Projects

ACF Projects

In Leicester, ACFs are offered a choice of research projects and supervisors depending upon their clinical specialty. The project/s available for each post are detailed within the tables below.

NIHR Themed ACF posts & projects

The themed ACF posts are awarded by the NIHR for trainees to work within NIHR priority themes. The specific projects identified in each theme have been reviewed by the NIHR and trainees appointed to these posts will be expected to work on the specific projects listed against the theme post. It is recognized that research develops over time and minor adaptations to methods/focus may be required. The overall aim of the research, and the theme alignment, cannot be changed.

Specialty ACF posts & projects

These projects available are based on research currently being undertaken by the supervisor(s) listed against each project. It is intended that successful ACFs will undertake the research described, however it can be 12-24 months from the time these projects are published online to the time an ACF starts their period of protected academic time. There is therefore a possibility that the projects described on this website may need to be adapted or changed by the time an ACF commences their academic work.

For specialty posts (ie non-research theme) it may be possible to undertake research outside of the pre-defined projects, but any proposed new project must be approved by the Director of Clinical Academic Training and the Clinical Academic Training Programme. ACFs appointed to specialty posts may also choose to undertake a research project identified in the themed posts.

There is an opportunity for individuals in any of the identified specialties to undertake research in Medical Education. The specific projects are available within the specialty links below .  Urology is only available as a Medical Education project and clinical research projects are not being offered at the current time.

The 2021 projects available are detailed in the specialty links below:
