Work Life Balance

The University of Leicester understands that having a work life balance is not just good for each individual but can also benefit the University as a whole. Below is information on a range of policies which aim to support a positive work life balance:

  • Adoption Leave
    Find out about the rights and entitlements for staff wishing to take Adoption Leave.

  • Compassionate Leave
    Information to help members of staff needing to take time off due to a bereavement or serious family illness.
  • Employee Study and Training Leave

  • Flexi-time
    Guidance is available for departments that may wish to operate flexi-time for support staff.
  • Leave of Absence

  • Parental Leave

    Members of staff may be able to take a short amount of unpaid time off to deal with specific circumstances involving a dependant.

Pay and Reward

  • Annual Leave
    Information about paid annual leave, bank holidays and closure days. Other types of paid leave may also be available to members of staff.
  • Bank Holiday and Closure Day Working
    Details of the rates of pay applicable to work done on bank holidays and closure days by Manual and Ancillary staff.
  • Job Evaluation
    Job Evaluation (JE) is used at the University to determine the grade of each post.
  • Merit Awards and Promotions
    The University normally undertakes an annual review to reward staff performance and contribution.
