Over 600 attended despite the rain!

Over 600 local people visited the Health Fair with a difference on Saturday 6 July, enjoying fun activities and learning about the health and safety of the whole family.

The rain set in at 10am and didn't stop all day, but members of the public braved the elements to come and enjoy the day.

The marquee (which was warm and dry!) included health information and advice, information stalls about local health services, face painting and more. The Leicestershire Partnership Trust, University Hospitals Leicester, Leicester Council's Department of Health and other local groups worked together to provide advice, help and information on a range of health concerns, including:

  • Infant feeding

  • Breast checks

  • Mental wellbeing (children and adults)

  • Stopping smoking

  • Home Birth Team

  • Heart Disease

  • Diabetes

  • Air Quality

  • Cancer screening

  • Kidney Lifestyle Team

  • And much more!

In our special Children and Teen’s Zone, teenagers could find out about sexual health, stress relief and feel the effect of beer goggles, while children engaged in activities around issues like dental health, mental wellbeing, school readiness, and hand-washing while taking part in fun health-related activities at the Creation Station or paying a small donation to get their face-painted.

Outside in the drizzle, medical students ran the successful teddy bear clinic (always good fun) and medical checks, and the Attenborough Arts Centre used pottery work-shops to demonstrate the benefit of art on mental health.

Leicester University Community First Responders gave defibrilator training , and CPR training was received from HeartWize.

The lawn - the wettest area - featured two bouncy castles and mini bikers, who set up a bike track across the lawn, as well as food stalls and LCFC penalty shoot outs. Born to Move dance sessions ran at the back of the lawn where our visitors were also entertained by medieval jousting from Enter Edem, bouncy castles, lawn games and Bambino Disco! for the really brave, there was the opportunity to explore inside a giant inflatable colon!

All this to a back-drop of performances from: The Levy band, LALU Ukele (1pm), the UHL Highs & Lows Diabetes Children’s Choir (2.15pm) and the Breathe Easy Choir (12pm).

Attend Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust’s annual public meeting was held at 12pm.

Through engaging in health advice, physical activities, relaxation sessions and informative workshops, our Health Festival aimed to educate people to make positive choices around their own health and wellbeing while providing a fun day out for the whole family.

This event is free of charge but guests were asked to donate whatever they feel to the below charities:
