Vision: to improve human health and the health of the environment through cutting edge multidisciplinary research, in a changing world.

The Centre is a new University of Leicester initiative, building on existing work on environment, health and sustainability across the university and developing new areas of research. It has the following over-arching objectives.

  • Conduct leading and scientifically excellent research
  • Develop new, cutting edge methodologies and technologies
  • Provide robust evidence for clinical and public health systems
  • Establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders and the public to ensure translation of findings into local, national and international policy
  • Develop comprehensive undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes in environmental health
  • Be a hub for researchers and clinicians from a broad spectrum of disciplines, within the University and externally
  • Become nationally and internationally recognised as a centre for rigorous, interdisciplinary evidence-based environmental health research and training
The Centre in start-up phase, with an official launch planned for mid 2019. Initial areas of research include air pollution, environmental noise, environmental influences on respiratory disease, the indoor environment and low level chemical exposures.

Offices are sited in the George Davies Centre, one of the largest Passivhaus office facilities in Europe with an A-energy rating.
