FACS Cell sorterThe Centre has a significant amount of laboratory equipment, which is maintained as a core facility, and is available for use by any section/research group within the Centre.  Users of this equipment will have to meet reagent costs and with some equipment, a contribution to the maintenance payments will be charged.

Each piece of equipment has a lead user.  If you wish to discuss the use of a particular piece of equipment, please contact them directly in the first instance.

The Protein Expression Laboratory

The Protein Expression Laboratory with prepare protein expression clones in the vector of your choice.  Multiple expression vectors from one set of primers.  All you supply are two primers and a template.

The Protein Nucleic Acid Chemistry Laboratory (PNACL)

The protein nucleic acid chemistry laboratory provides services for protein sequencing  and automated DNA sequencing.  Mass spectrometry facilities (electrospray and matrix assisted laser desorption) are available in the PNAC laboratory.

The Biomedical Joint Workshops

The Biomedical Joint Workshops provide an efficient, cost-effective, customer-friendly service in the design, manufactoure and repair of specialist equipment required for teaching and research within the College of Medicine, Biological Sciences and Psychology.

The LCRC would like to say a huge “Congratulations” to Bethan Rogoyski, as she has been asked to represent the Genetics Society at Parliament on 26th June and she has been invited to attend the Roche Continent 2018 event in August, two very prestigious events. Well done Bethan.


Congratulations to Bethan Rogoyski who received a £750 Junior Scientist Conference Grant from the Genetics Society, and a BACR/CRUK student travel award from BACR to attend the AACR conference on 14th-18th April.


In a recent exercise undertaken by the NCRI’s Clinical and Translational Radiotherapy Research Working Group (CTRad) Leicester was rated as internationally competitive/leading in the Radiation Biology Research domain, one of just four centres in the UK to achieve this rating in that domain.


All the staff and students in the LCRC extend their congratulations to Bethan Rogoyski and Sam Khan for being awarded travel bursaries from UKEMS and Health Education England respectively so they could attend the Cancer Prevention Conference in Germany.

Bethan presented her poster entitled “From Asbestos to Zinc – Can We Prevent Mesothlioma Using Repurposed Drugs?”

Sam presented her work on TBS2017-122-SK - "Targeting Nanog in colorectal tissue explant models for the evaluation of cancer prevention agents"
