Welcome to Leicester Cancer Research Centre

Leicester Cancer Research Centre is part of the College of Life Sciences and comprises of 16 academic and clinical-academic staff who are located in the Robert Kilpatrick Clinical Sciences Building and the Osborne Building at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, and in the Hodgkin and Henry Wellcome Buildings on the main University campus.

slide2.jpgThe Centre is recognised internationally for its competitive research in Cancer, notably chemoprevention, early detection, radiation biology and personalised medicines. We have a broad portfolio of studies in thoracic oncology and lymphoid malignancies with more focused interests in colorectal, pancreatic and breast cancers as well as melanoma.

The Centre is leading the recent renewal of the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC).

The Centre also hosts the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) and the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit.

Postgraduate students have the opportunity to study in a supportive and nurturing environment for the degree of MSc in Cancer Molecular Pathology and Therapeutics, in addition to supervision for the degrees of MPhil, MD and PhD. Interested in doing a PhD with us.. please click this link

Undergraduate study is encompassed within the general Medical MB ChB degree, where students learn all aspects of clinical medicine with rotation through different specialities, whilst developing skills in patient care.

The centre is part of the University's Open Access publishing initiative.

Well done to Rachel Norman who was awarded a travel grant whilst at the Human Proteome Organization Conference in Florida, US.

Congratulations to all of the MPTC MSc 2017-18 graduating students; in particular to Lilas Al Boushi who was awarded the Sydney King Prize as the best performing student.

The LCRC would like to say a huge “Congratulations” to Sam Khan, Bethan Rogoyski and Sarah Whelan, who scooped a plethora of awards at the 42nd Annual UKEMS Meeting held in Oxford from 2-5th September 2018.  Sam won best oral presentation for "targeting cancer stem-like cells in colorectal cancer" and Bethan and Sarah won young scientist poster awards for "From anti-helminth to anti-cancer: repurposing drugs to prevent mesothelioma" and "Harnessing the link between BRAF-mediated tumourigenesis and metabolism in colorectal cancer", respectively.  WELL DONE ALL!

In a recent exercise undertaken by the NCRI’s Clinical and Translational Radiotherapy Research Working Group (CTRad) Leicester was rated as internationally competitive/leading in the Radiation Biology Research domain, one of just four centres in the UK to achieve this rating in that domain.

All the staff and students in the LCRC extend their congratulations to Bethan Rogoyski and Sam Khan for being awarded travel bursaries from UKEMS and Health Education England respectively so they could attend the Cancer Prevention Conference in Germany.

Bethan presented her poster entitled “From Asbestos to Zinc – Can We Prevent Mesothlioma Using Repurposed Drugs?”

Sam presented her work on TBS2017-122-SK - "Targeting Nanog in colorectal tissue explant models for the evaluation of cancer prevention agents"
