In the last two years, 56 students have been supported through the Student Opportunities Fund thanks to the generous support of our alumni.

Donations made to the Student Opportunities Fund recognise individual potential and support some of the most talented and deserving students and enable them to continue their education at Leicester to the highest level.

The Fund offers vital support in a variety of ways including Alumni Research Scholarships, Hardship Awards, other awards, prizes and Music Scholarships, helping to promote a culture of excellence, raising ambitions and academic standards.

Lucy Hatton - SportPlatinum Sports Scholarship recipient Lucy Hatton

Lucy Hatton, a 2nd Year Criminology student at the University, won a Silver medal at the European Indoor Track Championships which took place in Prague earlier in March.

Lucy ran two personal bests in the 60m Women’s Hurdles heat and semi-final and clinched the Silver Medal by running a speedy 7.90 seconds in the final - another personal best.

Lucy is a Platinum Sports Scholar at the University and this was the first time she has represented Great Britain at a full senior international level.

Lucy now has the outdoor summer season before deciding whether to try for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Sports Scholarships are made possible through the generous donations of University Alumni each year to the Student Opportunities Fund which allows student-athletes, like Lucy, the opportunity to compete at national and international events by providing financial support for things such as travel expenses, equipment and specialist coaching.

Lucy has now graduated and you can find out what she is up to now as an alumna in her online profile here.
