Why Leicester

The wide diversity of Leicester's population together with our proven clinical and academic research excellence, high quality teaching and extensive healthcare infrastructure puts Leicester in a unique position to address some of society's biggest healthcare challenges.

1

Leicester is home to one of the most ethnically diverse communities in Europe. Ethnic communities suffer disproportionate rates of chronic disease resulting in Leicester's population providing a unique context for the discovery and development in the treatment of chronic diseases.

2Leicester hosts three of only 20 Biomedical Research Units (BRUs) in the UK which specialise in translational clinical research in areas such as:

3Leicester is the only place in the UK to combine three BRU's, six research centres, three hospitals and a top 10 Medical School - an unparalleled research and health infrastructure. Our research centres include:

  • The Stroke Centre
  • The Respiratory Centre
  • The Renal and Transplant Centre

4The University is lucky enough to have some of the worlds leading experts carrying out ground-breaking research into chronic disease and the ethics surrounding patient care and safety.
