Departmental Safety Officers Training - Core
The course is intended to equip Departmental Safety Officers (DSOs) with information that will help them to assist with the organisation of health and safety within their departments and to advise colleagues. This is for both newly appointed, and existing DSOs, who have not previously attended.

Risk Assessment Training
A training workshop facilitated by Safety Services Office. This course consists of two elements, the 'Principles' aspect of the workshop reviews the requirements for risk assessments and risk assessment procedures, and the 'Practice' aspect covers examples of risk assessments and assessment strategy.

Radiation Safety Training
This course covers two main areas, the awareness of the safety problem and the legal framework. Firstly the awareness of the safety problem which includes the external hazards of Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Neutron and X-ray emitters, internal radiation hazards and basic protection principles as well as radiation effects on the body and the risks. Secondly we discuss the legal framework such as the basic requirements of the Radioactive Substances Act 1993 and the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999. This part of the session also covers the position of the Environment Agency and the Health and Safety Executive, as well as the main points of the University of Leicester Radiation Protection Rules.
