Part 2: Practical Skills for Managing Performance, Conduct and Conflict at Work (Practical workshop)
This two part course is aimed at any member of staff who has team management responsibility (unless it has been identified and agreed as part of PDD development that it would be beneficial for you to attend this course). The course gives an overview of the University’s Ordinances, Policies and Procedures and your role and responsibilities and those of HR, as well as providing an opportunity for you to explore and practice practical approaches and techniques when managing conduct, conflict and performance issues that may arise with your staff. The course will look at both informal options for resolving issues, as well as the need to escalate to formal processes using relevant University Ordinances. Delegates are required to complete Part 1 on Blackboard, before attending Part 2, a practical workshop which will give you the opportunity to develop and practice key skills in a supportive learning environment. Part 2 of the course (the practical workshop) is available in two versions, one aimed at Academic and Research staff, the other aimed at Professional services and Corporate services staff. We invite you to attend the course version that you believe most accurately describes the type of work you and your team are involved in.

NVivo11 Support Drop-in Session
This drop-in session is for participants who wish to use NVivo for their data analysis. Participants need to bring their own data & specific questions about NVivo and the tutor will provide individual feedback & assistance. Questions and guidance could be around any of the following aspects of using NVivo: Build a project (import data, create memos). Label your data (annotations, coding, auto coding). Organise & manage your data (search folders, sets, classifications & attributes). Interrogating patterns (queries, relationships). Display your data (reports, models/maps, charts and diagrams, framework matrices). Teamwork in NVivo (merging datasets, coding comparisons).

Survey and Questionnaire Design
The aim of this session is to provide practical advice and guidance on designing surveys and questionnaires. The session is intended to help participants ask the right questions in the right way to capture the right data for their research project. The focus is on gaining confidence in designing the content and format of questionnaires and questionnaire questions. The same exercises are done by everyone during the workshop to enable the group to focus on the same tasks at the same time. The last 30 minutes of the session (12:30-1pm) is dedicated for individual practice & guidance. Participants can bring their own data & specific questions about online or paper-based questionnaires and the tutor will provide individual feedback & assistance.

An Intermediate Course in R Programming
R is a dynamic programming tool. Like other programming languages, customised mathematical and statistical operations can be created using the R script with little effort, thanks to the built-in powerful mathematical and statistical tools as well as the seamless integration with other contributed packages. In this course, participants will learn important R functions to summarise their data. The course will present the essential tools and techniques to write R scripts, conduct customised operations and repetitive tasks. Participants will also learn how to debug and capture the errors in the R scripts effectively.
