An Intermediate Course in R Programming
R is a dynamic programming tool. Like other programming languages, customised mathematical and statistical operations can be created using the R script with little effort, thanks to the built-in powerful mathematical and statistical tools as well as the seamless integration with other contributed packages. In this course, participants will learn important R functions to summarise their data. The course will present the essential tools and techniques to write R scripts, conduct customised operations and repetitive tasks. Participants will also learn how to debug and capture the errors in the R scripts effectively.

Linear Regression 2 A Practical Guide
The second session on regression will look at using regression models in practice and address some of the common issues that arise. The use of dummy variables to allow the inclusion of categorical independent variables will be covered and students will be made aware of the existence of alternative modelling techniques for use with categorical dependent variables. The remainder of the session covers regression diagnostics and addressing issues that these raise.

NVivo11 Support Drop-in Session
This drop-in session is for participants who wish to use NVivo for their data analysis. Participants need to bring their own data & specific questions about NVivo and the tutor will provide individual feedback & assistance. Questions and guidance could be around any of the following aspects of using NVivo: Build a project (import data, create memos). Label your data (annotations, coding, auto coding). Organise & manage your data (search folders, sets, classifications & attributes). Interrogating patterns (queries, relationships). Display your data (reports, models/maps, charts and diagrams, framework matrices). Teamwork in NVivo (merging datasets, coding comparisons).

Survey and Questionnaire Design
The aim of this session is to provide practical advice and guidance on designing surveys and questionnaires. The session is intended to help participants ask the right questions in the right way to capture the right data for their research project. The focus is on gaining confidence in designing the content and format of questionnaires and questionnaire questions. The same exercises are done by everyone during the workshop to enable the group to focus on the same tasks at the same time. The last 30 minutes of the session (12:30-1pm) is dedicated for individual practice & guidance. Participants can bring their own data & specific questions about online or paper-based questionnaires and the tutor will provide individual feedback & assistance.

An introduction to using NVivo 11
The aim of this workshop is to provide a practical introduction to NVivo11. The workshop will suit those who are complete beginners and those who have looked at the software and tried to use it in a limited extent. The focus is on gaining confidence in setting up a project efficiently, managing and organising data, exploring and conceptualising data and interrogating and visualising data. The same sample data is used by everyone during the workshop to enable the group to focus on the same tasks at the same time. Please note: This is an NVivo 11 for Windows course. Participants using the Mac version are welcome to attend but the course will cover the functions available for the Windows version, which are not all the same for the Mac version. Participants should bring their own laptops if possible.
