Fine tuning Plone

Is there anything I can do to improve my Plone experience?

This area will be used to gather together any information about changes users can make to improve their experience whilst using Plone.

Using a different browser

Currently, users at the University are given Internet Explorer 7.0 as their default browser. Whilst Plone works fine in this browser, it works better in later versions of IE and in other browsers.

  • Mozilla Firefox 2.0 shows a speed improvement over IE.
  • For home users who have Firefox 3.0 speed tests have found signficant improvements (up to 9x faster than IE7).
  • For users who have an Apple Mac we would recommend that you use the Firefox bowser instead of Safari (as the page editor doesn't work even with the latest versions of Safari).
  • Users of the new Google browser Chrome (Latest version only) will find a marked improvement in speed over Internet Explorer.

Tweaking browser settings

Users of Plone may experience some minor issues (see Known Issues) depending on which browser they use and the settings they have within that browser.

  • Users of IE7 can eradicate a number of these minor issues by enabling native XMLHTTP support in their browser settings. To do this go to the Tools menu, choose Internet Options and then choose Advanced. Scroll down the settings and in the Security section you will see a checkbox labelled Enable native XMLHTTP support. Check that box and choose OK.
