Create forms and surveys

24/11/11: If you are building a form, always check that the email address you are using as the recipient is valid. Some email addresses expire and if they do then your data will be lost. Also, we strongly recommend you add a Save Data Adapter to your form to automatically capture your data - again to avoid it being lost.

07/04/11: There is an issue/bug with the Rich text fields question type so please avoid using them in your forms until it has been addressed.

The Plone form tool, known as PloneFormGen, is simple to use and ideal for simple small scale surveys and feedback forms.

Anyone with 'can manage' or 'can add' permissions has the ability to add a form.

Ploneformgen is an open source plug in for Plone and whilst it normally functions without issue, users may encounter unforeseen errors with large data sets or complex form designs.

If you are considering creating a complex form/survey, or one that is large in scale, then our advice would be to use a commercial online survey tool instead of Ploneformgen e.g. Surveymonkey, Questback, etc. Please ensure that data collected conforms with The University of Leicester's Data Protection Guidelines. We do not recommend using an external tool for information of a 'sensitive' nature.

A Plone form is a folder which contains items including the questions and other elements.

For example, a simple form requesting staff details would contain questions  followed by input fields eg First Name, Last Name. Each of these would be a separate object contained within the form folder.  There is also a Mailer which specifies who to send the completed form to.
