A bug in Internet Explorer 8 when inserting images or tables

The default browser currently supported by the University is Internet Explorer 7, so the following information is only likely to affect people editing a Plone website on a non CFS machine e.g. a computer at home. A bug has recently been discovered in Internet Explorer 8 which makes it difficult to insert images and tables when editing a page in Plone. The normal practice when editing a page is to position your cursor at the point where you to wish to insert an image/table. If this is attempted in Internet Explorer 8 the inserted image/table will appear at the top of the page rather than the requested point.

This bug will be fixed in due course when Plone is updated to a newer version but in the meantime there are two available workarounds. If you already have an alternative browser installed on your computer then this should work fine, we would recommend using Firefox. If this isn’t an option then you can use the following method to successfully insert an image/table.

Position your cursor at the point where you wish to insert your image/table; this would normally be at the beginning of a paragraph. Press the space bar once to insert a blank space then hold down the shift key and press the left cursor key once. This should now mean that the blank space you just inserted is now highlighted. Once this is done you can insert your image/table as normal.
