What research degrees are available?
We offer a range of research degrees:

- DSocSci
- EdD
- MPhil
- MRes
- PhD
Not all departments offer all degrees, please see course details for information on which routes are offered.
Can I study part-time?
There is often flexibility in whether your degree is undertaken on a full or part-time basis, or whether your studies are campus-based or off campus. This flexibility will depend on your subject and what is appropriate for you to successfully complete your research degree.
We also offer research degrees in Labour Market Studies, Archaeology, Law and Museum Studies by distance learning study.
What facilities are available to me?
Each department has a range of facilities and support structures for postgraduate research students. These may include study offices, lab space, dedicated computing facilities and social spaces. Special postgraduate study spaces are also available for most departments.
The University’s David Wilson Library offers a mass of resource, both in hard copy and electronic format. The Library contains a dedicated postgraduate area accommodating 200–250 students and comprising a computer suite, a quiet study zone and a relaxed seating area.
What will my fees be and is there any financial support available to me?

What support will the University provide for me?
Your department will provide support and advice through your supervisor and other members of your thesis committee.
Alongside the support of your supervisor the Graduate School offers an induction day and oversees the provision of research training, as well as monitoring and supporting your progress throughout your time at the University.
You will have access to all of the University’s welfare and pastoral support as well as study support, including the opportunity to undertake small group teaching and demonstrating in your department.
