Supported study
Self-study is central to Distance Learning. Support however is always available from our distance learning administrative teams at the University.
Our discussion boards on our Virtual Learning Environment, Blackboard, are accessible from any location at any time during your study and will provide you with opportunities to network with your peers and connect with your tutors. Some of our courses also include residential visits and workshops for face-to-face interaction. This will vary from course to course, so please contact your department for further information.
We also encourage students to make use of social networking sites and students are known to set up LinkedIn and Facebook groups.
The University of Leicester Students’ Union is here to support all students during their studies, offering education advice, representation and a chance to meet new people. Distance Learning students go through a unique learning experience, and our Education Unit is here to help every step of the way offering free, impartial and confidential advice about your course.

You will have access to the Library’s comprehensive online catalogue comprising of thousands of electronic journals and 350,000 books. This includes the Leicester Research Archive, a digital collection of research papers and theses from members of the University. As a Leicester student, you will be able to access the online catalogue and download these resources free of charge - wherever you are in the world. In 2012 the University Library won the prestigious Times Higher Education Outstanding Library Team award. You are, of course, welcome to come onto campus and use our Library facilities at any time.
To help in the running of selected courses we have developed a network of agent partners around the world to support you during your studies, some of which will organise local teaching events. Please contact the appropriate Department directly to find out whether there is an agent in your country who deals with the course in which you are interested.
Career changing
