Applying for a Distance Learning course
Our application processes are designed to be user-friendly. Our staff are happy to advise if you have any queries about your application. You have the option of applying by post or online.
For postgraduate study, applicants should have a good honours degree (at least a 2:2 honours for taught programmes and a minimum 2:1 honours for research degrees) or equivalent. Our departments have considerable experience in evaluating qualifications and accept a wide range from all over the world. Other academic and professional qualifications and experience may also be taken into account and in some cases form an integral part of the entry requirements.
How to make your application
Distance Learning courses may have up to four ‘intakes’ of students each year. Details of application deadlines for specific courses, where relevant, are given in the Prospectus.
You can choose to apply online or by post.
Applying online
If the course you are interested in accepts online applications then there will be links in the right hand column of the online prospectus entry inviting you to 'apply online'.
Applications, when received, are forwarded to the Department which runs the course for which you are applying.
Applying by post
You can download an Application Form (PDF) - incorporating two Reference Forms which should be filled in by your referees.
Your completed Application Form, including both Reference Forms, should be sent directly to the Department which runs the course for which you are applying. You should include evidence of your qualifications (eg. a degree certificate) and ability to fund your studies.
What happens next?
When your application has been received by the Department which runs that course, the Department may contact you for further information or to invite you for interview.
The assessment of your application can take up to 28 days. Once the Department’s Postgraduate Tutor has made a decision, you will be informed whether or not your application has been successful.
Equal opportunities in admissions
The University of Leicester's policy in considering applications is to use an assessment of the applicant's potential to achieve success as the criterion for selection. Admissions Tutors will therefore consider factors relevant to the applicant’s academic aptitude. No applicant will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of sex, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, social class, age, disability, colour, race, nationality, or ethnic or national origins. Any conditions for entry to a course will only be imposed if justifiable on academic grounds.
