Applying for undergraduate distance learning courses
This page tells you how to apply for an undergraduate distance learning course. Are you looking instead for how to apply for a full-time undergraduate course on campus (though UCAS) or how to apply for a postgraduate distance learning course?
Stage 1 - Identify the course you wish to study
It is important that you read all the relevant information in the Undergraduate Courses section of this site relating to the course(s) for which you are applying before completing the application form. This is to ensure you are familiar with the course content and entry requirements. If you require further information about the course, then please contact the relevant academic department directly (using the contact details located at the top right hand side part of the page) before completing and submitting your application.
Stage 2 - Collate Application Information
Before you start to complete the online application form, you should make sure you have the following information:
- Course or research programme choices
- Personal Information
- Academic qualifications held and transcripts, including English Language, if appropriate
- Personal Statement/Research Proposal
- Name and contact details, including email address, of one Referee (they must be an academic referee)
- Photograph – if applicable
Please note that at the end of the application form it is possible to upload electronic versions of any of your supporting documentation and photograph. The more documentation that you are able to upload in a suitable format, the quicker the decision making process will be.
Stage 3 - Complete the Application Form
Please select the course you wish to apply for in the Undergraduate Courses area of this site.
Please note that if there is more than one intake date available, there will be a dropdown box listing all the available intake start dates. Once you have selected the start date, click the ‘Apply’ button to open the online application form for that particular course.
- If you already have a user account, log in with your user name and password.
- If you do not yet have a user account, click 'New applicant' to create an acccount. This will enable you to save your part-completed application, if necessary, and return to it at a later date to complete and submit it.
Before submitting the application, please ensure that all sections are completed as fully and as accurately as possible. Please note that you will not be able to change details once you have submitted the form.
If you have supplied email addresses for your referees, they will be contacted via email and offered the opportunity to upload references via a secure link. We encourage you to check that the referees have received an email and that they respond, as it is your responsibility to ensure that we receive references.
Stage 4 - Supporting Documents
We encourage you to attach supporting documents at the end of the application. However,
any supporting documents that you were not able to submit online or that your referee will not supply direct, should be sent through the post. Your application will list the supporting documents that are required, but will include the following:
- Two completed written references
- Copies of qualification certificates/transcripts
- Proof of English language competency for those applicants whose first language is not English
If you are submitting documents by post, please print the ‘Cover Sheet’. If you are submitting references by post, you can also download a blank ‘Reference Form’.
Please send these supporting documents to the relevant academic department.
What next?
Once we receive your completed application and all of your supporting documents we will make an assessment of your application. If you are successful and we make you an offer, you will receive further instructions about what to do next, including payment and how to become a student. If you have any queries at any stage, please use the contact details in any correspondence you receive from the University about your application.
