A/AS-levels for all degrees

Three A-levels usually required, normally including at least two from: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Mathematics or Physics. Geology qualifications are welcomed, although we assume no previous knowledge of Geology.

Requirements for Geology with Geophysics courses

One of the three A-levels must be Physics or Mathematics. If either of Physics or Mathematics is not taken at A-level, this subject must be taken at AS-level.

GCSE

Mathematics and English Language normally required. A physical science, if not offered at A/AS-level. Grade C or above.

Access to HE Diploma

Pass relevant diploma with some credits at distinction.

European Baccalaureate

Pass with 77% overall for BSc, 80% for MGeol including subjects from those listed above.

International Baccalaureate

Pass Diploma with 32 (or 34 for MGeol) points including higher level subjects from those listed above.

Cambridge Pre-U

MGeol – D3/D3/M2, BSc – D3/M2/M2 in Principal Subjects, including at least two sciences.

BTEC Nationals

Pass Diploma with DDM, plus any subject/GCSE requirements.

Other Qualifications

Other national and international qualifications welcomed.

Mature students welcomed

Alternative qualifications considered.

Applicants are not normally interviewed; all those receiving an offer will be invited to visit the Department.

These degrees are not currently available on a part-time basis.
