First Year
During the first semester you will take two film modules, Reading Film and Introduction to Cinema. You will also take a supplementary subject, chosen from a variety of fields such as American Studies, History of Art, English, Modern Languages or Politics.
In semester two you will take a further Film module, Realism and the Cinema, allowing you to explore one topic in greater depth. You will also select one History of Art module, plus another module in your supplementary subject.
Second Year
In semester one you will take two core modules: American Film and Visual Culture; and Film Production.
The latter gives you practical filmmaking experience. You will also make a selection from a range of Film Studies or History of Art options, currently including Film Journalism and options on national cinemas (currently Mexican and French cinema).
In semester two you will take a core module in Researching World Cinemas and complete a 5,000 word Long Essay. You will also make a selection from modules on national cinemas (currently Spanish and Italian) or Art History (currently Italian Art and Architecture 1500-1700).
Third Year
All students will complete a 10,000 word Dissertation on an aspect of film and the visual arts. In addition you will take four specialist options from a list which currently includes the following:

- B-Films and Serials
- The Golden Age of French Cinema 1930-1955
- Women in Cinema
- Italian Post-War Directors
- The Cinema of Luis Bunuel
- Classical Aesthetics and its Legacy
- Nineteenth Century British Art Reassessed
- Central Italian Sculpture of the Sixteenth Century
- Holbein to Hilliard
- Conceptual Art and its Aftermath
- The Death and Life of Modernist Architecture
