School and College Services

Our School and College Services Team, based within our Student Recruitment Office, works in collaboration with academic departments and external partners to organise a wide range of outreach programmes for students of many differing ages.
These include everything from attendance at school HE fairs to summer schools, and from university experience days to student placements in schools. We also organise a regular teachers’ and advisers’ event.
Colleges-University of Leicester Network (CULN)

CULN exists to optimise collaboration between Further and Higher Education Institutions for the benefit of staff and learners. The Network comprises 18 Further Education Colleges and three Higher Education Institutions across the East and West Midlands.

At the University of Leicester, our School of Education offers enjoyable and challenging CPD courses covering a wide range of curriculum and specialist subjects. Postgraduate Certificates and Masters Degrees are offered part-time, and currently these programmes are subsidised by the TDA for those with Qualified Teacher Status.

GENIE (Genetics Education Networking for Innovation and Excellence)

Raising public awareness of genetics in science and society is a key activity for the GENIE Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. Our outreach work includes work experience placements, taking genetics into the classroom and local communities, taster courses and summer schools. We offer events catering for all ages from key stage 2/3 to adult education classes.
Chemistry: The Next Generation

The University of Leicester is the lead institution in the new HEFCE funded Aimhigher project 'Chemistry: The Next Generation'. This exciting programme delivers a wide range of materials and events to inspire schoolchildren aged 14-19 to study the chemical sciences at universities and colleges throughout the UK. The Department of Chemistry also has a range of outreach opportunities.
Physics and Astronomy

The Education and Outreach programme operated by the Department of Physics and Astronomy provides support for teachers, students and the wider community. The goal is to help everyone engage with science and to encourage more young people to take an interest in science and include it in their further studies. We run a number of programmes ourselves, and also collaborate with partners such as the National Space Centre on a range of other exciting projects.
