Svitlana

BSc Communications, Media and Society - 1st year

About Me

Hello my name is Svitlana (for friends Lana) and I am 19. I came all the way from Ukraine to do a Foundation year to enter Leicester University to study Media Communications and Society. At the moment I am at my first year. I am totally enjoying it, because this course gives a broad understanding of how media functions within society and many other fascinating and useful topics. I am staying at John Foster Hall, which is very comfortable and modern. I think the library is a perfect place to study, because of the general academic atmosphere, comfortable spots for working and café downstairs that opens till late. After work is done you can find me out at town or just hanging around Oadby student village with my friends.

Hobbies and Interests

At freshers' fair I joined lots of different societies, however I ended up attending just few. My main passion is films, photography and fashion. Also I really enjoy going to the gym and different classes like yoga and dancing. At the moment looking forward for next year to start working as Leicester Ambassador and hope to get a job at the University to enhance my marketing and advertising skills.

Advice for prospective students

Life in University is a bunch of different opportunities. Once you get here try to make most of your time. Try everything and find out what suites you best! Definitely, time management is essential. Don’t be shy and remember that a smile and friendliness helps to make lots of friends. Most importantly give yourself enough time for your assignments.  Honestly, attending lectures and doing reading really helps to be less stressed and more confident at exams time. Work during the day and party at night. Life will be perfect then!!!
