Ivan
MA New Media and Society
About me
Hi there! I’m Ivan Atmanagara from Jakarta, Indonesia. I’m currently writing my Masters degree dissertation on New Media and Society and I expect to graduate this year. I enjoy studying in this university as I could explore various layers of media studies. I’ve also collaborated in joint-writing with students and staff, attended conferences and seminars – all of these have exceeded my expectations. I live at Salisbury Houses, one of the uni’s dorms designed for postgrad and third year students. It’s a great place to live and get to know people from various cultures and nationalities.
Hobbies and interests
I love reading and I usually spend my spare time hunting for books in many local bookstores in Leicester. On other days, I join in five-a-side football games with other students. I also like to get involved in a number of seminars on media and communication in the University. Last week, I attended in the first Google’s Big Tent, a conference on technology in Watford, which was highly relevant to my study. I spend most of my weekends exploring the city’s best-known places, such as the botanic gardens, museums, music and cultural venues, and shopping centres.
Advice for prospective students

It opens up your horizons on the studies of how society embraces technology. The course is new and is therefore very dynamic in terms of teaching content and modules. However, the course is supported by experienced teaching staff, from various fields of specialties in media and communication. They provide both academic and personal support throughout the course. From the very first class, you’ll be immersed in thought-provoking discussions and debates on current events of new media.
