My research involves measuring and monitoring carbon losses from a degrading tropical peat swamp forest, which has direct relevance to global issues. I chose to study at Leicester because of the staff expertise and because I was offered a scholarship.

The course has met my expectations. I am an ecologist so I don’t need much in the way of facilities... however I do find the new university supercomputing facilities very useful! Lecturers in my department have been very friendly and approachable and I have received good support for travel and attendance at conferences.

The University of Leicester is forward-looking with a small and compact campus featuring a mixture of the old and the brand new. The best thing about the campus is without doubt the paternoster in the Attenborough Tower!

The city is better than I expected. Leicester Market is a great thing and I particularly enjoy the shops, bars and curry houses around Queen's Road and the Clarendon Park area.

Once I’ve finished my degree I hope to get a research job or do a postdoc, which I have always wanted to do.

I would definitely recommend Leicester to a new student!
