- We have one of the highest proportions in the UK of staff who are research active - nearly 93% of our staff were submitted for the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise
- 87% of staff submitted were assessed as producing research of international significance

Research with Global Impact
Our research has world-changing impact and our work receives international recognition:
- The 2011 QS World Rankings placed us in the top 2% of world universities and revealed our research has the seventh greatest impact of all English universities as measured by citations per academic
- The 2011 Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities placed us in the top 2% of world universities
- In 2009/2010 we secured record levels of research grants to support vital research - £56.1 million, which is 17% more than in the previous year
- It was at Leicester in 1984 that the technique of genetic fingerprinting was first developed and our research community continues to develop innovative solutions across a broad range of research themes
