Training for Postgraduate Researchers
Each postgraduate researcher works in close contact with several members of staff, in areas close to their research interest.
Postgraduate researchers have working space (a desk and a computer) within the main economics buildings, and full access to the staff common room - thus further strengthening the proximity with academic members of staff, and further enhancing the ease of interaction between postgraduate researchers and staff.
On admission, you are allocated a Thesis Committee, consisting of your Supervisor, Thesis Advisor (or second supervisor), and the Director of Postgraduate Research.
Facilities for Postgraduate Researchers
The Department of Economics is committed to the provision of formal and broadly based research training and of high quality supervision to postgraduate researchers within an established research environment.
Library and computing facilities are excellent, and the Department runs a number of seminars and workshops in which academic economists from inside and outside the Department present their recent research work. A special series of seminars where postgraduate researchers present their work is well attended by members of staff, and is an extremely useful source of feedback for postgraduates on their work. Participation of outside conferences is encouraged.
In addition, during the first year of registration for a research degree, the Department provides considerable research training specifically to facilitate the transition from taught postgraduate work to postgraduate research work.
