Academic Entry Requirements

Applicants to PhD, MPhil, and other research degree programmes should hold or expect to obtain before starting:

  • a first or upper-second class honours degree from a UK university
  • an equivalent qualification from an overseas institution

In some cases it is expected that you will also hold a Masters degree in a discipline relevant to the area you want to research; if a Masters degree is required, this will be stated in the programme description.

If you are applying for a specific studentship or other funding opportunity, please be aware of any additional entry requirements associated with this.

Non-Standard Qualifications and Professional Experience

Other academic and professional qualifications and experience may be taken into account and in some cases form an integral part of the entry requirements.

Where other academic/professional qualifications or experience are required this will be stated in the programme description.

If you need any further advice, please contact our Postgraduate Admissions Team.
