The School of Modern Languages is pleased to offer this bursary for October 2012 entry to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme. The bursary is worth up to £3,000 a year for three years and will be paid as a reduction in the course fee. The bursary is open to UK/EU and international (i.e. outside the EU) applicants.

Research Areas and Supervision

We welcome applications from those looking to work in any of the following areas:

  • 19th and 20th Century Italian Literature and Cultural Studies - in particular
    • Women's Writing and Gender Studies
    • Cinema
    • Theatre Studies
    • Textual/Visual Culture; Photography and Literature
    • Politics and Identity
    • Modernism/Avant-Garde
    • Early 20th Century Literature and Culture; Fascism and Culture
    • Contemporary Fiction and Orality
    • Space, Place, and Landscape Studies

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a first-class or high upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relvant discipline and meet the University's standard English language entry requirements. It is expected that applicants should also have a Masters degree in a relevant discipline or be able to show evidence that they will achieve this before October 2012.

The bursary is open to suitable UK/EU and international (i.e. outside the EU) applicants. The bursary is for full- or part-time study and applicants must be able to commence their studies in October 2012.
