Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds Biosciences PhD Fellowships

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds awards PhD fellowships to outstanding junior scientists who wish to pursue an ambitious PhD project of approximately three years in basic biomedical research.

Fellowship Description

The fellowship comprises a competitive monthly stipend that is initially granted for two years and that can be extended for up to another twelve months. Participation in international scientific conferences is also supported. In addition, fellowship holders are offered personal support, seminars to discuss their projects, communication training and alumni meetings, and thus can become part of a worldwide network.

Eligibility

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds awards PhD fellowships to European citizens working in Europe or overseas, and to non-European citizens pursuing their PhD project in Europe. Applicants should not be older than 27 years at the respective deadline (1st February, 1st June, 1st October).

The PhD project must be experimental, in the field of basic biomedical research and aimed at elucidating basic biological phenomena of human life and acquiring new scientific knowledge.

Applicants should be about to start their PhD programme or have started their PhD no more than six months before the relevant application deadline (1st February, 1st June, 1st October).

How to Apply

The application is in two parts, both of which must be submitted by the relevant application deadline (1st February, 1st June, 1st October). As part of your application, you will need to provide a research proposal and advice on how to prepare this is available from the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds website.

Pre-selection takes place about four weeks after the respective deadline, and the final selection approximately five months after the respective deadline.
