The Department of the History of Art and Film is pleased to offer a scholarship for October 2012 entry to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme. The scholarship will pay full-time University UK/EU tuition fees for three years.
Research Areas and Supervision
We welcome applications from those looking to work in areas compatible with the research interests of our staff, which include:
- British Medieval Art and Architecture
- British and American Film
- British Television History
- 19th and 20th Century Art
- Italian Art and Theory from c.1400-1800
- Modernist Architecture

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a first-class or high upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant discipline and meet the University's standard English language entry requirements. It is expected that applicants should also have a Masters degree in a relevant discipline or be able to show evidence that they will achieve this before October 2012.
This scholarship is open to suitable new UK/EU and International (i.e., outside the EU) applicants. Please note though that the award covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate only. International applicants (and those not eligible to pay UK/EU tuition fees) must demonstrate at the time of their application that they can fund the difference in tuition fee rates.
The scholarship is for full-time study only and applicants must be able to commence their studies in October 2012.
