Economics Pre-Masters Diploma
Duration and mode of study
One year full-time.
Start dates
October each year.
Entry Requirements
Students should have an upper second-class honours degree or equivalent from a recognised university.
Course aims
The diploma is intended for students with first degrees in disciplines other than economics at a level acceptable for entry to the Masters programme but who need further preparation in quantitative, economic, business and financial analysis.
Course modules
The diploma will use selected modules from the undergraduate programme in the Department of Economics which are particularly relevant to the Masters degree which students intend to study.

- Households, Firms, Markets and Welfare
- Macroeconomics and Finance
- Market Power and Market Failure
plus one from:
- Statistics for Economics and Business
- Sampling and Inference
plus one from:
- Introductory Economics
- Multiple Regression Analysis
Optional modules
- Money and Banking
- Mathematical Approaches to Economics
- Principles of Finance
- Economics of Human Resources
Teaching and assessment methods
Teaching is by a variety of lectures, classes and seminars. Most modules are assessed by written examination. Some modules are also assessed with projects and coursework.
