General eligibility criteria
See the Student Types page for notes on mature students, part-time students, foundation courses, second degrees, M-level degrees, Erasmus students and students taking a year out in industry or abroad.
Registration
Students must be registered as full-time students at the University of Leicester on 1 December 2012 to be able to receive a scholarship.
Country of residence
England
If you live in England and are eligible to apply for home rate student funding from Student Finance England, you are eligible for these scholarships.
Scotland
If you live in Scotland you may be eligible to receive the Chancellor’s and Departmental Scholarships, but not the National Scholarship Programme. We are awaiting further information from the Scottish Parliament regarding any contribution to tuition fees.
Northern Ireland
If you live in Northern Ireland you are eligible to receive the Chancellor’s and Departmental Scholarships, but not the National Scholarship Programme.
Wales
If you live in Wales you are not eligible to receive these scholarships. This is because the Welsh Assembly has decided to fund a fee waiver grant for students’ tuition fees. More information.
Other EU countries
If you live in any other European Union country and are eligible for EU rate funding from Student Finance England, you are liable to the same £9,000 tuition fee. You are eligible to receive the Chancellor’s Scholarship or the Departmental Scholarship, but not the National Scholarship Programme. Please find your home country in this list to see which qualifications are equivalent to the required British A-level grades for these scholarships.
Rest of the world
If you live outside the European Union and are liable for international fees you are not eligible to receive these scholarships. Separate funding arrangements exist for international students.
Number of Awards
You can only receive one of the following scholarship packages:
Students from CULN colleges and other key partner schools may receive the CULN Transition Scholarship in addition to one of the above scholarships.
Deferred Entry
Deferring from 2011 to 2012
If you applied in 2011 for deferred entry into 2012 you will fall under the 2012 funding arrangements detailed on this website.
Deferring from 2012 to 2013
University of Leicester scholarships are awarded for the relevant year of entry only. If you defer your entry (ie. start your course in 2013) you will be considered against the scholarship criteria for 2013, not 2012. The information here refers to 2012 year of entry only and may be subject to change.
Transferring courses
Transferring within the University of Leicester
If you change your degree programme within the first few weeks of University you will still be eligible for any Chancellor’s Scholarship or National Scholarship award but may no longer be eligible for any Departmental Scholarship. If you choose to restart your degree in 2013, you will be re-considered against the scholarship criteria for 2013 and not 2012.
