Staff and students at the University are taking part in a national event to highlight the contribution which migrant workers make to the University, Leicester and the UK.

Migrants from across the UK will be tweeting and sharing images and statuses about themselves at 11.20am and 1.00pm on Monday 20 February using #1DayWithoutUs. Possible posts include selfies taken by migrants at the University with accompanying statuses that highlight the many accomplishments of our staff and students from overseas.

"We are inviting migrants from inside and outside the European Union, and everyone who supports them, to celebrate the contribution that migrants make" says Dr Mireya González Rodríguez who works in the University's Archaeological Services. "The aim of the event is to spread a message of equality and tolerance towards immigrants of both Non-EU and EU origin during times when discrimination is becoming complicit and silent".

In recognition of the contributions which migrants have made to Leicester, there will also be a gathering at Town Hall Square in Leicester City Centre at 6.00pm.
