The musical sculpture, titled 'Adagio', has been installed on the Fielding Johnson Square as a centrepiece near the Percy Gee Building.

It was created by artist John Sydney Carter who has a long connection with the University, being involved in the ‘Sculpture in the Gardens’ exhibitions at our Botanical Gardens. John is also the artist behind the ‘Atomica’ sculpture, which can be found in the stairwell of our Henry Wellcome Building and the violin sculpture outside De Montfort Hall.

This new sculpture was funded by and donated to the University by Adrian Weston, a long-time friend of the University, in memory of his wife Bridget. Adrian said: “Bridget had a keen interest in art, for which she had a fine eye. She was in fact a good watercolourist herself, specialising in botanical paintings, and loved music.”
