Anthony Nolan Trust seeking bone marrow donors, 12 November

From midday to 4.00pm on Saturday 12 November at the Leicester Tigers Ground there is an open session where healthy volunteers between the ages of 18 and 40 can offer their services as bone marrow donors.

All that is required on the day is to answer a brief health questionnaire and then give a sample of spit (saliva) for analysis. If suitable you then go onto the Anthony Nolan Trust's registry of potential donors. Only a small proportion of listed donors are asked to actually donate which simply entails giving a blood donation (ie. there is no operation on your bones and no need for anaesthetic).

Two Leicester patients with rare marrow types suffering from Leukaemia are in urgent need of marrow transplants: Bethany Mickleburgh, a 14-year-old schoolgirl; and Rik Basra, a Police Inspector. This is your chance to help patients like them.
