UCU Industrial Action Wednesday 30th November 2011

Students may be aware that the academic trade union, the University and College Union (UCU), has called a one-day strike on Wednesday 30th November 2011. 

The industrial action is in relation to objections from UCU to proposed changes to the Higher Education Sector wide pension scheme that is offered to academic and some administrative staff.

This is a national strike and will take place in universities across the country.  Pay and pensions are matters determined at a national level and not by the University. 

The University's view is that the industrial action is regrettable. The University will seek to function as normally as possible on Wednesday.  The Head of your academic Department has been asked to advise you of any lectures, or other activities, that will be affected by the strike and to let you know about any alternative arrangements.
